As we all know, the Mock COP 26 at Holme Grange was a fantastic experience for everyone, with students from reception to Year 11 taking part in extremely exciting activities, such as learning about how oil is bad for the environment to learning about how Climate Change affects many different places around the globe.
Ishika and I had the wonderful opportunity to help the marketing department at Holme Grange by going around the school and taking photos, videos and interviewing people. People gave their thoughts in interviews, like how they thought “it was a good day for awareness”, and how they “really enjoyed the activities”.
An example of one of the most exciting activities of the day, (that Ishika and I were fortunate enough to be there for), was the Water Challenge, which was a teamwork building activity, where you and your team had to run to different stations with cups full of water. The aim was to spill the least amount of water possible. This activity was run by the Sports Department, and Year 6 completed it in the morning.
At the centre of the day was the Mock COP26, in which a range of Eaton Grange pupils from a wide variety of different years came together in groups of four or five and represented a country. The groups prepared speeches, created flags etc as well as speaking to adult activists such as Gregor Murray. In the Mock COP, students got the opportunity to present and share as well as learn.
Students also got the chance to get creative and create interesting things like mind maps and posters. When Ishika and I took a trip to Year 2, one of the classes were colouring in food drawings! In another class in Year 2 they were having an animated discussion about how plastic affects the environment. They also (everyone in the school was asked to do this) wrote down how/what they wanted to make change.
The day was extremely fun and Ishika and I are very grateful to have been able to see each of the activities. It was nice to see all of the teachers and students engaged and having fun. Overall, it was a great day!
